3 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Oct 4)
1. Get Your Head In The Game, Ref
The ongoing program between Jack Swagger and Baron Corbin finally culminated in the final match on Smackdown, which also represented Swagger's blue brand debut.
The match wasn't anything special - Swagger's not too bad, but Corbin's nowhere near the level of most of the other guys on Smackdown. Still, I was ready to go thumbs up just so I wasn't too hard on this show... if the bout had a decent finish. Of course, it didn't.
The finish was the worst kind - the kind that only puts heat on the referee. Swagger locked Corbin in the Ankle Lock and dragged him to the center of the ring, and when he tried to reach for the ropes, the referee mistook his hand motions for tapping out and called for the bell.
There are few finishes more disappointing than those built on a stupid mistake that every fan can see right through. Even the announcers - JBL excepted - acted like Corbin might have tapped, which made it even worse.
