3 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE NXT 402
The centrepiece of the episode was a number one contender match to decide who will face champion Bobby Roode at Takeover. Killian Dain, the hairy human battering ram, faced McIntyre whose renaissance after a period in exile from the WWE has yet to fully ignite.
McIntyre started in charge until the match was turned around by one of Dain's scary-looking low cross bodies, now called as the 'Belfast Blitz'. The audience weren't particularly invested in the action, perhaps because neither man has much of an established story or motivation beyond 'angry guy who wants the title'. It's not even certain whether both men were heels here.
The action itself was fine but nothing special, aside from a nice Air Raid Crash (duly called my Mauro Ranallo) from McIntyre, and Dain's fatal-looking senton.
The lack of a story, or of a significant audience reaction especially to McIntyre, hurt this match as a main event. Perhaps most importantly it didn't produce enough oomph going into the resulting title match.
