3 Ups And 4 Downs From WWE NXT 402
Mauro Ranallo's return revitalised NXT's commentary but Nigel McGuinness has grown in confidence too, from an awkward United Kingdom Championship debut in WWE to his well-informed and occasionally crotchety counterpoint to Ranallo's big-fight glitz.
McGuinness was particularly good during the match between Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan where he sounded like he was having fun commentating on the bruising encounter. The commentary team's dynamic has him often taking the lead and calling play-by-play while Ranallo backs him up. Ranallo can come to the fore to make the main events sound like big deals.
McGuinness also provided insights into the competitors that gave context and detail to the matches, like Burch's boxing background and cardio and Cezar Bonani's martial arts training. He helps make the wrestlers sound like legitimate athletes as well as bringing out the story being told. NXT continues to have the WWE's best commentary, eve if Percy Watson tries his best to kill the buzz.
