3 Ups And 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Jan 24)
3. Not The Royal Rumble
The second match on Smackdown was a ten-man battle royal, with the winner getting a spot in Sunday's Royal Rumble match. Being that the field consisted of The Vaudevillains, The Ascension, Tyler Breeze, Fandango, Rhyno, Heath Slater, Mojo Rawley, and Curt Hawkins, the winner was also going to have the honor of being the worst competitor announced for the match. Oh, and Baron Corbin was on commentary, just to make things perfect.
There are good battle royals, but this wasn't one of them. The Vaudevillains went out immediately, and Curt Hawkins and Viktor didn't last much longer. Breezango tried to toss out Rhyno and Konnor, but Rawley had to join the effort in order to throw them over the ropes. After that, he was alone with the tag team, but he avoided a superkick from Breeze (which found and eliminated Fandango), then threw Rawley out to win.
It was a good idea to make the Rumble seem important by sending the winner to the match, and Rawley is probably better suited for a singles push than anyone else in the bout, but this wasn't any good.
