The renewed roster split in 2016 did briefly create worthy competition between Raw and SmackDown Live without the need for a "seige", and the near-hour dedicated to the elimination match marvellously paid off weeks of intrigue as the two tribes went to war.

The contest was loaded with memorable moments. A Shield reunion crossed the divide, Roman Reigns concussed a mid-air Shane McMahon with a sickening spear and Bray Wyatt - somehow - remained relevant in victory as his new relationship with Randy Orton bore yet more fruits for both.
