Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels weren't the first, second, third or fourth choices of Vince McMahon to main event only his second ever pay-per-view without Hulk Hogan, but the changing of the card necessitated the changing of the guard as the new WWE World Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champions were given time to transform the typecasted main event style.

Bizarrely, the match was one of their best together. The two could and should have done more as they grew into their roles as company figureheads midway through the decade, but ramped-up personal tensions persistently got in the way.
