The Team Austin/Team Bischoff Survivor Series elimination match was the finest moment on a middling show, but it told a bigger story of the company's need for older stars as recent retiree Stone Cold and returnee Shawn Michaels stole the show.

With older tensions addressed, 'The Rattlesnake' was convinced that 'HBK' was on his side beforehand. Within the match, he stained the canvas in his blood to prove his loyalty and delivered one of his most underrated performances in the process. A year earlier, Shawn Michaels had completed an improbable comeback inside the Elimination Chamber. This was a comeback of an entirely different kind - 'The Showstopper' was back.
