29. The Second Wasn’t

The Rock Stone Cold Steve Austin
WWE

The federation picked up quickly by delivering a red hot Royal Rumble in January 1998.

Everything had a real sense of danger to it, and the show-long story of literally everyone on the roster gunning for marked man Steve Austin added so, so much. Everything lacking at DX the month prior was here in abundance. San Jose was ready for the Rumble, and the WWF didn't disappoint.

Matches like Goldust vs. Vader (a cracking, super-underrated opener), Ken Shamrock vs. The Rock, the Rumble itself and a historic Casket bout between HBK and The Undertaker elevated the show. This was more like it - the '98 Rumble is still worth viewing today.
