31 Years Of WWE SummerSlam Mistakes

26. SummerSlam '92 - Nowhere For Flair

Ric Flair's angle at SummerSlam '92 was terrific, but it still felt like a monumental waste. The 'Nature Boy' was at the absolute zenith of his powers whilst enjoying what he personally described as the best run of his career (some testimony), and yet there was no place from him in-ring at one of WWF's biggest ever shows.

The poor guy was clearly eager; he rocked up at Wembley entirely kitted out in his best purple finery, sporting a particularly eye-catching plum robe. Yet he had to make do with a consultancy role, as Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior renewed WrestleMania hostilities from the year previous.

WWF probably - and fairly - believed Warrior and Savage were bigger attractions to help fill the national stadium, though quite frankly the company could have promoted Typhoon vs. The Berserker as the main event and still packed the ground to the rafters. It was still a waste, and hey, robes aren't easy to stuff into a suitcase, you know.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
