4 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Rampage (Oct 1)

Ups...

4. The Simplified Commentary

The three-four man commentary booths AEW favoured during Rampage's first few months were...a bit too busy. Basically, Excalibur, Taz, Chris Jericho and Mark Henry/Ricky Starks found themselves fighting to get a word in, and Jericho's style (whilst energetic) definitely grated quickly.

Excalibur and Taz handled the bulk of the workload this week, and it was an improvement. The pair work really well together, and they didn't even stumble when Starks joined them for the second half of the night; he's no commentator quite yet, but Ricky didn't exactly ruin things and kept his banter to a minimum.

Smart move.

Jericho was out because he's currently selling a knee injury following last week's American Top Team attack. That was a blessing. The two-man dynamic soared through the opening match, then Starks picked his spots after joining the desk. This was a vast improvement for Rampage, commentary-wise.
