4 Ups & 10 Downs From WWE Raw (Sep 7)

1. Return Of The Ambulance Trope

Once upon a time, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was hauled off in an ambulance that beginning of Raw, only to return later that night, driving the same vehicle, hellbent on getting revenge.

Ever since then, WWE has tried to recreate that magic by having superstars drive an ambulance into the arena, with the injured wrestler jumping out and exacting revenge against the person who attacked them. The problem is, WWE has done this to death, and they seem to do it dumber each time.

Case in point, Monday night, Randy Orton was cutting an in-ring promo when an ambulance siren started wailing. The emergency vehicle rolled into the arena, and Drew McIntyre jumped out, complete with entrance theme, and he proceeded to nail a Claymore to Orton, paying him back for three punts a couple of weeks ago.

Let that sink in though: Orton sent McIntyre to the hospital two weeks ago after three punts, where he was diagnosed with a fractured jaw. McIntyre returned to Raw in an ambulance two weeks later. Are we supposed to think he’s been hospitalized the entire time? No, Vince McMahon just probably thinks it’s a cool visual for the WWE Champion to show up in the same manner he left the show.

And that is just WWE devoting itself to its stupid tropes once again.
