4 Ups & 2 Downs From This Week's Impact Wrestling (Jan 3)
3. An Extreme Reunion
WWE love using stars of the past to get a cheap pop from the crowd. It’s only on very rare occasions when they actually do something meaningful to further the current story they’re getting involved with.
Impact tend to use them only here and there, and the majority of the time it turns out to be successful. This week was a further example of that, with Tommy Dreamer and Raven appearing to add more hype to Sunday’s Monster’s Ball between Eli Drake and Abyss. The ECW icons teased fighting amongst one another, only to team up for once and take out Drake.
The ball is clearly in Abyss’ court right now following Eli’s fall at the feet of the hardcore legends. It’s common knowledge in wrestling that whoever has the advantage on the go-home show before a pay-per-view rarely comes out on top at the big event. If this fact comes into effect on Sunday and Eli Drake does indeed put Abyss away, hopefully he can return to the World Championship picture.
If he loses again, perhaps he could be on his way out of Impact and on to pastures new. He wouldn’t look out of place in an All Elite Wrestling ring for example.
