4 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (May 6)

Ups...

4. Eddie Kingston On The Phone

Chris Jericho Eddie Kingston
AEW

This was deliciously old-school and simple.

Eddie Kingston phoned in to address Chris Jericho hurling a fireball into his face. The spirited babyface, who is so strong on the mic it's unreal, said the JAS leader's actions made his wife cry. That won't fly with Eddie, so he vowed to beat Jericho's brains in soon.

This quick angle didn't eat up much time on the episode but was still super-effective. Granted, Jericho's response was a bit sh*t - Chris didn't appear to have a rebuttal when Kingston hung up, and that led to a fairly awkward exchange with Excalibur before everyone moved on.

It's worth ignoring that for the strength of Eddie's promo alone. This is something that WWE never does these days, probs because they've got so many other formulaic ways of progressing the narrative. AEW went old-school here, and it was cracking.
