4 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (May 6)
1. The Lack Of Star Power
Fans who tune into AEW programming know what they're going to get by now. It's rare for matches to be anything less than technically proficient, and some even explode into top-notch fare that scratches that in-ring itch for wrestling nuts who dislike "sports entertainment" elsewhere.
That's fine, but Tony Khan has to be careful that Rampage doesn't become AEW: Sunday Night Heat. The show kinda had that air about it this week. It was solid in parts, and yet there was a frightening lack of star power spread out across the entire hour.
Some will enjoy seeing fresh-ish faces like Yuka Sakazaki and Konosuke Takeshita get some minutes, but throwing new toys out there in front of fans (no matter how accomplished they are) is no sub for strong storylines. It may be wise for AEW to build the characters they'll use weekly.
Just saying.
