4 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Chronicle: Samoa Joe
Ups...
4. Nice Insight Into Joe's Childhood
Now, the positives.
Interview footage with Joe's mother again shows a different side of the man. In his family home and surrounded by loved ones, he's relaxed, and the way his mother looks at her boy is touching; throughout, she admits her surprise at Joe becoming a wrestler, but makes sure to beam with pride over his accomplishments.
Joe's family ran one of the biggest Polynesian dance troops around when he was growing up, so he was exposed to large crowds and a showbiz lifestyle from a young age. There's some nice insight into his early years overall, including a funny story about how Joe would have to explain bumps and bruises at school from practicing dance routines that involved knives with his father in the garden.
It's that kind of light-hearted, reflective moment that Chronicle needed more of if it was going to rise above average. On a cheerful note, segments with Joe's mother are very much worth watching to see the kinship he shares with her. There's affection there, and it's something everyone can relate to.
