4 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Chronicle: Samoa Joe
2. WWE's Honesty
When Chronicle isn't busy lending some last-minute hype to SummerSlam's WWE Title match (thus limiting the film's scope and putting a time limit on how effective it is), it's a candid, honest take on life in the company. One of the best stories comes right at the top in Joe's car.
In his very first official meeting with Triple H, Joe was slightly taken aback to hear both Trips and Jim Ross said they didn't think Vince McMahon would ever promote a 30-something indy veteran to the main roster. At the same time, Joe appreciated the honesty, and he was looking forward to killing it on NXT anyway.
Both Joey Mercury and William Regal were also in the room, and Joe tells how they reacted to the news that he might never reach Raw or SmackDown's promised land.
This comes up again a bit later on when viewers are treated to a quick chat between Joe and Triple H on the entrance ramp. Reaffirming his belief that Joe would always blossom, Triple H reveals that lying to the Samoan was never something he was going to do.
