4 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT UK (20 May)
1. Goofy Ilja Dragunov
Speaking of tropes that rarely land in professional wrestling; talk shows. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D is superb in the Waiting Room, but she’s the only one who can pull it off right now.
Long story short, Noam Dar’s Supernova Sessions is essentially only in existence to give ‘The Scottish Supernova’ some extra TV time.
Dar’s guest here was Ilja Dragunov, who Noam poked fun at for losing his temper in every match since his loss to WALTER. He’s had matches forced into referee stoppage, he’s been disqualified, he’s broken Dave Mastiff’s nose; Dar had a point here. He would have maintained that point had he not turned the talk show skit into a spa skit. Revealing he didn’t have a customised Supernova Sessions robe for Dragunov and handing him a stuffed therapy dog – Lenny, for those wondering – added together to make a dull segment far worse than it needed to be.
Again, this will no doubt be a superb bout when they collide on 3 June. It didn’t need a Supernova Sessions skit, though, especially not when it involves Ila Dragunov, who should be exempt from this goofy trash. The absence of Sha Samuels detracted a lot from this, too.
