4 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Rampage (April 28)

2. Energy Compensates

Ricky Starks
AEW

OK, so the story between Ricky Starks and Bullet Club Gold isn't very interesting, largely because there isn't much of one. However, the opening tag-team bout was an energetic, well-worked kick off for Rampage, and everybody involved contributed to that zippy pace.

Also, giving Jay White the win was a correct call from AEW. The fact White pinned Shawn Spears makes it even better - that's Spears' lot in All Elite for the rest of 2023, but he's clearly cool with that. The veteran has nothing to prove, and just wants to have as many good matches as he possibly can.

Good on him for doing the honours.

It's amazing what high energy can do for a match. Tony Khan must now meet these fellas halfway by giving them more story to work with (why are they even fighting?), especially if he hopes to see Jay White/Juice Robinson vs. Starks on pay-per-view in the future.
