4 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Apr 3)

2. Shane & Bryan

The Shane McMahon/Daniel Bryan buddy-up segment was weird. It looks like the Commissioner has made a miraculous recovery from diverticulitis, proving once again that he is, indeed, WWE's hardest man (or that the whole thing was a rib on Brock Lesnar - take your pick). Similarly odd was Bryan's apology, despite being in the right for much of the ongoing Sami Zayn/Kevin Owens storyline, but these diversions aside, the segment was a success.

The goal was to get Bryan and McMahon on the same page ahead of WrestleMania, and it worked. After briefly working through their issues and admitting their shortcomings, the duo teased a hug, then delivered. They're now a united force heading into what should be a fun little tag match, and their interactions popped the crowd. What more could anyone want?

Daniel's return has breathed life into what once seemed like an unsalvageable storyline, and while McMahon can be an extremely tedious performer, everything about the tag match makes sense. That he's paired with someone who'll surely be New Orleans' hottest babyface helps him greatly, too, because it's impossible to feel cynical about a bout that'll see a beloved folk hero make his first in-ring appearance since April 2015.
