4 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dark (May 19)

2. Darby Allin vs. Serpentico

Rocked by recent failures (most notably his inability to defeat Cody) is Darby Allin, who brought this to the ring against a game Serpentico.

Effective character work was the name of the game here. Allin's work was nastier and more dastardly than usual, indicating a change in attitude. His losses have altered him - because wins and losses matter, remember? - and his morality has loosened, leading to moments like using Aubrey Edwards as a human shield and barging her out of the way.

Serpentico fed into this by fighting fire with fire, even throwing Darby into the ring steps at one point. This drew increased gumption from a wrestler desperate to prove himself.

The Last Supper leg lock/pin combination saw Serpentico tap out while his shoulders were planted on the mat for the 1-2-3. A great, eye-catching finisher that gives Allin another viable way to win matches.
