4 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite (15 Feb - Review)

2. Mark Briscoe Is A Treasure

Mark Briscoe's match with Josh Woods was a very good bit of business.

An establishing victory more than an electrifying back-and-forth, that will come later. This was a nice, well-received match that sets Briscoe on his journey. His instant hit of a character is a fish out of water, and the land is the wacky confines of North American wrestling TV. This follow-up to his hilarious Rampage debut was just as charming.

Briscoe is so much more intelligent than he lets on. He doesn't want to dull the charming brilliance of his backwoods fool act, but he's very savvy. He knew immediately that Smart Mark Sterling was full of sh*t, but was nice enough to be nice. He couldn't not do the Jay Driller in the wonderful Jay Briscoe tribute match opposite Jay Lethal - that was the perfect finish - but he only teased it here, and finished Woods off with the Froggy Bow. When he hits the Jay Driller again, it will really mean something.

Over big already, and so entertaining that he had Taz in stitches, AEW has a new cult hero - and it's impossible not to fall in love with him.
