4 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling Genesis 2021
Ups...
4. Outsiders Shine
Blake Christian and KC Navarro had a great quarterfinal bout. Arguably, it would have been greater had they both wrestled signed Impact talent as opposed to a pair of outsiders facing off in the very first round, but regardless, a fine match. In fact, aside from one or two moments, it was a near-perfect match.
Navarro worked a more ground-based offence to prevent 'The Gamechanger' from taking flight, which, in all fairness, is a sound strategy. He had to work a maximum of three matches if he did advance over Blake, so why would you want to knacker yourself early on? Blake, meanwhile, took to the skies wherever possible.
It's a shame that the match ended with a simple corkscrew splash from Christian, as you hear all these amazing things about what he's capable of in the ring as it pertains to his industry-changing arsenal of twists and dives, but then he ends matches with more basic moves like this. A minor Down on an otherwise great match.
Needless to say, this was the standout encounter of the opening round. Both Blake and KC should undoubtedly be snapped up by Impact Wrestling immediately if this is the level of ability they're offering. If truth be told, the X division could benefit hugely from a talent boost.
