4 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling Genesis 2021

1. That Ending

Ending Genesis with the I Quit Match between Moose and Willie Mack was a terrible decision by Impact management. Coming into the special, it felt as if the show had to end with the Super X Cup finals - in hindsight, this would have been a terrific idea given how sensational Ace Austin vs. Blake Christian was.

Instead, we ended it with an I Quit Match to conclude a two-month long rivalry that involved a superplex on a pile of chairs and a Go To Hell through a table at ringside which resulted in Willie's head bouncing off the ramp. Arguably, the match should have ended after that spot, seeing as it was the only part of the bout worth actually watching. What was frustrating about it is that, despite selling for ages outside the ring, Mack proceeded to take control of the match mere minutes after one of the nastiest spots of his career.

The ending was pure Russo-era WCW. Moose, on the verge of breaking Willie's neck with a steel chair, instead uttered the dreaded words himself upon receiving a World Championship opportunity against Rich Swann. The show almost immediately went off-air.

What the f*ck?

Keep in mind, this I Quit Match was to conclude a two-month long rivalry. Had Moose still snapped Willie's neck post-match, then it would have been a tad better, but having him award a victory to 'Chocolate Thunder' instead and walk off only further hampered his persona which has taken him months to rebuild. Moose vs. Swan has to be worth it at this stage - any more bullsh*t from Moose, and he's done in Impact Wrestling.
