4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SmackDown (June 2)

2. Short But Hardly Sweet

Firstly, it is pleasing to see Zelina Vega qualify for Money In The Bank, but her three-minute scrap vs. Lacey Evans was another duff moment overall for Smackers. Three minutes isn't enough time for Lacey to build any heat that'd lead to a satisfying babyface comeback (which sympathetic underdog Zelina is good at), and Vega won't improve in matches this short.

Basically, it was another waste of your time.

This women's division certainly has numbers, but that's not the same as credible depth. WWE does a rotten job of making people care about anybody outside the title feud(s), and that's a problem. Take a look at the trajectory of Lacey's latest heel character, for example.

She appeared in Sgt. Slaughter-style hype vignettes that promised ass-kicking performances. Instead, Evans is dropping MITB qualifiers in mere minutes, and using rear chinlocks for approx half of her short bouts. It's rubbish, and doesn't come close to being character development.
