4 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (22 Feb - Review)
4. The Tag Team Battle Royal
Your writer is a fan of Jeff Jarrett to an enormous fault, and the Jarrett/Jay Lethal team were more than worthy of the Revolution spot they picked up here by virtue of 'Double J's victory. It's a shame, then, that the overlong battle royal that got them to the spot was uncharacteristically flavourless.
As usual, The Butcher did well in the melee, but his lengthy run amounted to little when he was eliminated before the true closing stretch. Lucha Bros and Rey Fenix specifically were far and away the most over duo in the match, and Fenix' rope-running elimination of Rush was the semi-regular reminder why. That all amounted to nothing as well, with the final moments saved for Trent? from Best Friends getting the last hope spots.
Satnam Singh propelling both Jarrett and Lethal back into the match with one hand each was cute, but cute's better in the first few seconds rather than the last gasps of an 18 minute affair. In another case of AEW getting sloppier with their matchmaking of late, Aussie Open made little impression but secured a match with The Young Bucks anyway because of course you book that match while you can. The details company should have featured Mark Davis or Kyle Fletcher in a more prominent spot to make this feel more organic than it came across. It's okay to have standards, and just as okay to want them to be upheld in the small ways as well as the big.
