4 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (22 Feb - Review)

2. Orange Cassidy Vs Wheeler Yuta

When William Regal left AEW, his group’s name might have made less sense than before. But who knew the B now stood for “bitch”?

That was the theme of the build for Orange Cassidy’s All-Atlantic Title match with BCC’s whipping boy Wheeler Yuta on last week’s Rampage, and it factored into the conclusion when the pair opened this week’s show.

A kind-of awesome match undeniably suffered from the continuity calamity that set it up - the crowd were hot for the big moments, and this one had a few. But Yuta as a heel and/or playing the wronged party in his split from Best Friends was flawed the slicker the work got. The quality action didn't fit where his character's currently at, which itself is a little hard to parse.

Following the most disgustingly brilliant gum spot of all time, Cassidy retained, but that resulted in an another less-than-satisfying development. After being out-wrestled, the wrestler from the wrestlers’ club wanted to make amends before his stablemate Claudio Castignoli pulled him away from a handshake. The BCC are in turmoil, but not the most captivating kind, and both Jon Moxley and especially Bryan Danielson still have huge matches at Revolution that undermine that premise anyway.

Great matches don’t always make for great episodic TV and unfortunately this was all-too-perfect example.
