4 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jan 20)

4. Ford's Win Undone By Misfiring Story

Miro Chuck Taylor
AEW

Leyla Hirsch and Penelope Ford worked an unfortunately poor match with a horrible finish, as Kip Sabian grabbed Hirsch's boot and pulled it towards the ropes as his wife-to-be scored the pin. This baffled the announcers and viewers. The commentators thought Leyla had her foot on the rope when she clearly didn't, with Sabian's intervention bringing it closer, not further away. Prior to this, the action was ponderous at best.

This bout also suffered from the immediately goofy presentation of this Miro/"Charles" Taylor angle. Chuck as 'The Best Man's' butler gave the storyline a new wrinkle, though it quickly became the exact kind of silliness Miro needs to avoid if he's ever going to build significant credibility in AEW. Bullying Taylor into disavowing Orange Cassidy and calling Miro his new best friend makes sense on paper, sure, but the guy's standing out there dressed like a champaign waiter, going through the motions as we trudge toward the likely Miro vs. OC endgame.
