4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SmackDown (April 22)

Ups...

4. Drew Gulak = Assistant

TV time is TV time.

Drew Gulak didn't have a lot of that before being battered by Charlotte Flair last week. The overlooked wrestler tried out as a backstage announcer on the show, got his arse handed to him by the SmackDown Women's Champ and has now moved up in the world because of that.

WWE didn't need to replace Sonya Deville as Adam Pearce's assistant, but there's no doubting how big an opportunity this is for Gulak. He'll have ample minutes on screen for the first time in ages, and chumming around with Pearce sure beats anything else he was doing (or not doing).

The positives outweigh the negatives with this idea. Drew finally has the chance to show off his personality, and he can take the occasional kicking so that his kayfabe boss doesn't need to. Plus, it's nice that WWE are going with a face for the role rather than another heel.
