4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SmackDown (May 29)
5. Sonya Looks Weak
This was so avoidable.
Sonya Deville should've beaten Lacey Evans clean here. Instead, WWE went for a lame double count out and, worse, booked an aftermath that made a strong heel look like anything but. The questions must be asked of creative: Who were they protecting Lacey for, and why did menacing bad ass Deville need to look cowardly?
Sonya has been a highlight of SmackDown in recent weeks. Her promo work has been second to none, and the intensity she showed against Mandy Rose last week elevated her to a whole new level. This was 50/50 bullsh*t that dropped Deville back down a notch, and there was really no need for that.
The "I'll fight you on my terms blondie" line was a bit naff too. Rather than shying away from conflict, ex-MMA mauler Deville should be rocking up in Evans' face and putting her in her place. WWE unpicked some of their own good work with this one.
