4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Sep 24)

2. The Giving Champion

Boy, Roman Reigns gave Montez Ford a lot in that main event.

Crucially, the Universal Champ managed to do so without making himself look weak. Any champion watching who wants to know how to elevate opponents (without over-selling) should watch this headliner on repeat. Roman has become the standout example of a titleholder who knows when to show vulnerability and when to dominate.

This could've been a test to see how Montez fares without Angelo Dawkins. Face it, The Street Profits aren't going to be around forever; WWE is a singles star-driven company, and every tag-team splits up eventually. The Profits won't be an exception to that rule, so Ford did his chances of a solo run no harm here.

Montez can also sell his ass off, which will help him if he stays baby as a singles act. Some of the near falls were ludicrously close (they fooled the live crowd on at least one of those), and Ford came out of this looking like someone with serious promise.

Let's hope he buys Reigns a steak dinner.
