4 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (June 6)

2. Five Refs, Zero Common Sense

What makes a brutal beatdown so effective is how realistic can seem, even in its chaotic nature. When you’re taken out of that moment, it becomes more difficult to immerse yourself in the moment.

Last week’s pull-apart brawl between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins was fantastically done and set the tone for their Hell in a Cell match. But Monday’s cowardly attack by Rollins had one glaringly bad moment that bears criticism.

Rollins charged out after offering a handshake of respect, using a sledgehammer to down Cody. He then dropped the sledge and knelt over Rhodes, ripping his shirt off and taunting him. Referees and officials ran out to break it up and tried to pull Seth off Cody. They moved all around the stage, stepping repeatedly over the sledgehammer – and not a single one of them thought to grab the weapon.

Seriously, it was so bad, this writer yelled at the TV as one official literally stood over top of the sledge, “For God’s sake, pick it up and run off!” Of course, as soon as Rollins picked it up, he was armed and no one would approach him as he continued to assault Rhodes.

Just, come on. This was a nearly flawless segment, but this was a glaring mistake.
