4 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (May 30)
1. Sell Me, Don’t Overload Me
A triple threat between Becky Lynch, Asuka and Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship should feel like a main-event worthy match. You should be champing at the bit to see this match.
So why did Monday’s half-hour commercial for the match feel lacking and fall flat?
Maybe it was the 10-minute promo train that said nothing of consequence. Becky repeated her greatest hits for the third time about Asuka. The Empress said very little. And Belair was the most notable, saying her title 100% wasn’t going anywhere.
Maybe it was the one-on-one match between Bianca and Asuka, which was originally supposed to be the Raw women’s title match at Hell in a Cell, that ran for 15 minutes and ended on an awkward rollup. Sure, it was a fine TV match, but it was 100% inconsequential. It literally served no purpose than to fill time and provide Becky an opening afterward to attack both women and stand tall.
Don’t spend a half-hour trying to sell me on a match by just gift-wrapping fluff. If you can’t offer substance, then keep it short and sweet. This was just a waste of time that didn’t make me any more jazzed about Sunday’s title bout.
