4 Ups & 9 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 15)

6. Birthing A Bad Idea

WWE loves recycling really bad plots, doesn’t it? The Maria pregnancy angle was a disaster a couple of years ago, so why not tweak it and make it so 70+ year-old Ric Flair impregnated married superstar Lacey Evans?

Saying it out loud makes it sound even worse than it is, but this is supremely stupid. Evans refused to tag into her tag match alongside Peyton Royce against Asuka & Charlotte Flair, and when she was tagged in, she hopped off the apron and refused to enter the match, grabbing a mic and announcing she was carrying a child. Ric celebrated like he had hit the lottery, which was absurd on its face. And Charlotte just looked disgusted, like all of us.

Any way you slice it, this is just stupid. Nevermind the company made an entire angle of Lacey’s daughter attending matches with her husband. Nevermind Evans has a title match this week.

There is reporting that Evans is actually pregnant in real life, but rolling it into the storyline as Ric’s baby – even if it’s a heel ruse – is just prolonging a storyline that was already dying a horrible death on TV. An actual pregnancy would have been a perfect way to torpedo the entire angle and everyone move on to something else.

Instead, we’re going to have to deal with this bad soap opera crap for the foreseeable future.
