4 Ups And 3 Downs From WWE NXT (Oct 21)

3. Drake Me Happy

Maverick Dain

For anyone keeping track of this, the perfect next step in an 'Unlikely Lads' angle is for the pair to enjoy a relatively straightforward victory, whereby the reluctant partner finally begins to see the value in the more enthused one. A realisation that they're stronger together than they are apart and a begrudging decision to press on as a unified force to try and accomplish something they couldn't otherwise do alone.

All this segment needed for a (let's face it) illustrious Up was a routine victory over Ever-Rise, but that's not what happened.

Instead, Drake finally got through to Dain by absolutely losing the plot. Goaded by their opponents he saw red, grabbed a chair, and absolutely mullered the pair of them in a DQ-finish. "WHERE'S THAT BEEN!?!?" exclaimed Dain at the end of the match, finally opening his eyes to the chemistry between the two.

I make this point every week but this angle has been great for both men, and will hopefully give the rub to the tag division as a whole. Every step so far has been in the right direction, and while the match here was nothing to get excited over, the story it told was brilliant yet again.
