4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (June 17)

1. Joe And Owens Was A Well-Booked Slugfest

Leave them wanting more, as the old showbiz maxim says. The first meeting between the two monsters ended the only way that was smart, with a no-contest. The poor referee was caught up in the violence and threw the match out as the two men continued to batter the Christmas out of each other. The match itself was good, with the crowd popping whenever Joe would mount offence with speed, but the post-match brawl was much more fun. It was seen recently in the Zayn/Owens feud, and the Corbin/Rhyno one as well, but the entire security team and referee staff coming out to break up a brawl will always look great. The image of both men separately breaking away from their detainers in order to launch themselves at their opponents really whets the audience's appetite for their next encounter, whenever that will be, and Owens found time to prove why he's a great heel, elbowing a security member in the face, and cheap-shotting another on his way out. This encounter wasn't the greatest match in the world, not by a long shot, but it wasn't designed to be. It was meant to be the first step on a hopefully long journey for the two men. At that, it succeeded.
