4 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Clash Of Champions 2017

2. Did Corbin Insult Another Veteran?

WWE is either truly conflicted about what to do about Baron Corbin, or they think these start-and-stop efforts are a real direction for his character.

Corbin lost his United States Championship, just two months after winning it, to Dolph Ziggler in a triple threat match. Ziggler, who has been all but directionless for much of 2017, won a match with a hot ending – and fans popped for the title change – but why stop Corbin’s reign now?

Backstage, it was pointed out that Corbin also failed in his Money in the Bank cash-in, and he was asked if he is squandering his opportunities. This prompted an outburst from Baron before he stormed off.

Is that really the angle here? Corbin loses his title and he’s labeled a choke artist? Is that really how he’s being painted? If so, that’s just a dumb idea. And it’s doubtful they’re suddenly doing something clever with Ziggler (they haven’t followed through on anything with him for years), so you’ve got to wonder what they were smoking.
