When Becky Lynch attacked Charlotte Flair post-match at SummerSlam, it looked like WWE was doing its usual tone-deaf routine of turning someone heel without listening to the fans who were chanting for the wrestler.

Fortunately, it looks like they opted for more of a “shades of grey” route with Becky, who defeated Charlotte for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Hell in a Cell. The match itself was pretty solid, with Lynch wearing down Flair and setting up for the Disarm-Her, bending the rules, but not breaking them.

In the end, Becky rolled through Charlotte’s spear and rolled her up for the pin. The ending was a bit disappointing (the injured arm didn’t factor into the finish), but the company got it right with Becky winning the title (losing would have negated her entire “turn”), but they also didn’t have her act like a straight heel.

And that’s good, considering that fans chanted for Lynch nonstop throughout the match. She even refused a congratulations from Charlotte, noting that she was not going to take this moment from her.
