4 Ups And 8 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Aug 28)

6. The Feud Must Continue

In the realm of WWE tropes, two others that get overused quite a bit are the dreaded rubber match and continuing a feud past what would be a generally accepted conclusion.

In the case of Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor, it’s tough to figure out which one is at work here. Balor lost a singles bout to Wyatt on Raw a couple weeks ago, but returned at SummerSlam as the Demon King and handled the Eater of Worlds. Balor’s win at the PPV was convincing in the sense that his persona froze Bray in his tracks before vanquishing him. It would have been a perfect end to the feud: Balor loses, summons the Demon, slays Wyatt, the end.

But since it’s 1-1, and/or since Wyatt can’t accept that the feud is over, Bray attacked Finn during the Intercontinental Championship battle royal, eliminating Balor. And thus, the feud must continue.

While the next match might be good, and perhaps WWE will attach a hefty stipulation to the bout, it still warrants a “down” for extending a feud that would have been accepted as over at SummerSlam.
