4 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Backlash 2018

5. Styles Clash

Unfortunately, we’re not talking about AJ Styles here, but the Big Cass versus Daniel Bryan match, which was a huge styles clash.

Bryan typically does pretty well wrestling bigger opponents and fighting from underneath, but when that opponent is a bland, plodding lug, it’s almost impossible to make fans care about the match. The crowd still rallied behind Bryan, but as Corey Graves chastised, what was Cass doing parading around the ring with his fist raised? That consisted of one-third of his offense.

Worse yet, there’s a simple way to effectively do the big man-little man match, and this wasn’t it. The problem for Cass was that it made him look worse by tapping out quickly to Bryan’s Yes Lock (after messing up trying to block it).

It could have just been an off-night for Cass, but he had an opponent who probably would have sold like crazy for him, and he just threw clotheslines and boots in the blandest big-man way.
