Someone should check the history books and see what’s the longest gap between tag team title reigns, because Miz and John Morrison might have set a new record Thursday.

The duo captured the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at Super Showdown, defeating New Day in a good little match that featured Kofi Kingston and Morrison trading some of their unique offense, Miz saving the day at one point, and both teams scoring some near-falls.

But as popular and good as New Day is, Miz & Morrison really needed the tag titles, as the Shaman of Sexy just returned to WWE, and being shunted into a losing tag team right away would have left fans wondering what was the point of bringing him back. At least with the tag titles, they can parade around and boast about how great they are.

Maybe we’ll get a new Dirt Sheet episode on SmackDown on Friday to celebrate.
