4 Ups And Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Jan 29)

3. Triple H Doing A Promo To Set Up A Raw And Fast Lane

Triple H must love to hear himself talk. Maybe it's just his father in law Vince McMahon that makes the decision to start every Raw and Smackdown with a promo. This time around we had to hear Triple H talk for about ten minutes. He made some inflated balls jokes regarding the NFL just because he wanted to make ball jokes. Stop trying to be a cool heel. You're supposed to be an evil boss. Just play your role. Hunter talked about how he was going to have a face to face meeting with Sting at the Fast Lane PPV. He will probably remind us of that on every show every week until February 22nd, which is fine. It's just that he's the type of guy to ramble on. The other reason for the promo was to talk about the controversy from the Royal Rumble. They didn't even specifically say what it was, but Cole was on commentary saying fans were upset that Bryan, Ambrose and Ziggler didn't win the Rumble. It's not really controversy. It's completely rejecting a booking decision that WWE made. The main purpose of the promo was to say that on Monday he would make an announcement that "will likely shake the WWE Universe to its core." Excuse me if I have my doubts about that. This is the same company that does repetitive and boring firing angles that they treat as a big deal when they are not. To summarize all of this, a man stood in the ring to begin the show, did a promo about a promo on Monday and a promo in three weeks. There's already too much talking in WWE. We don't need more promos to set up other promos. They could have shown a graphic saying "Big Announcement on Monday's Raw" if they wanted and it would get the job done.
