4 Ups And Downs From This Week's TNA Impact Wrestling (Jan 25)

2. Screwy Finishes

Lashley and Kenny King were having a really good match - until inevitably it ended in a disqualification because the Beat Down Clan (that name deserves its own entry in the €˜downs€™ column) interfered and gave Lashley a beating. Havok and Gail Kim were having a superb bout with Havok showcasing brute power and Gail Kim showing why she is one of the finest female wrestlers in the world today €“ until it ended in a disqualification because Havok pushed the ref. Bobby Roode and Kurt Angle were having a barn-storming tag competition against Eric Young and Loki €“ until in the least surprising turn of events in the night, other members of the BDC came down and distracted Kurt (who must be really stupid if after this many years in the game he can still fall for this kind of thing) giving EY a chance to hit Roode with a chair and get the win for Loki. Screwy finishes are everything that is wrong with wrestling today, and they are one of the biggest bug bear for fans who just want to see good matches with clean endings that tell a story. These endings are cheap, unimaginative, lazy, and they leave fans feeling like they have wasted their time even watching the product. When you add to the fact that there was a squash match, and two gimmick matches on the show€™s card this evening, then it really makes the product look very, very thin and poorly planned. WWE is full of frustrating screwy finishes and their audience is shrinking more and more by the week. Impact would benefit from being totally different in this regard, and keeping the screwy finish for the odd match to really build heat. That would allow them to be an alternative, and show they are learning from the mistakes of Vince McMahon and co.
