4 Wrestling Talents That NXT Dropped The Ball On

2. The American Wolves

They may have quickly become an afterthought following their debut on the main roster last December, but the Conor O'Brian/Konnor and Rick Victor/Viktor iteration of The Ascension was a dominant force on NXT, though much of this was largely due to a lack of competition. In November 2013, this looked set to change, as Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, then renowned within Ring Of Honor as the American Wolves, were given a week-long tryout with the WWE that many believed would lead to them being signed.

This week included the taping of NXT's 200th episode, where the pair were debuted answering an open challenge from The Ascension. Billed as the 'American Pitbulls', with Richards performing as 'Derek Billington' and Edwards as 'John Cahill', the duo were defeated in just over four minutes despite being put over strongly by the commentary team.

This was their first and last appearance, however, as ultimately the pair were rejected, supposedly on the grounds of their size. Whatever the reason, they were quickly snapped up by TNA instead and have subsequently won the promotion's tag team titles on five occasions.

Though both are in good shape at present, the WWE main roster and NXT tag divisions have been frequently lacking in recent years. The signing of The Wolves in 2013 could've brightened up what ultimately became a year-long Ascension reign marred by a dearth of compelling match-ups.
