5 Best & 5 Worst Wrestling Championship Designs In The World Right Now
7. Worst - NWA National Championship
When the National Wrestling Alliance began hosting its own shows in 2018 it gave fans a new opportunity to look at wrestling from an old-school perspective, and has gone on to be a popular promotion. It has also brought back relevancy to the NWA World Championship and with it revived a selection of old NWA titles.
The NWA National Championship was a significant belt in the Georgia Championship Wrestling promotion during the 1980s. It was retired in 1986 until it was revived again in 1997 and vacated for the second time in 2017. As is apparent, this belt has had plenty of history, so when it was brought back to the NWA - now a promotion and not a governing body -, it felt important.
Sadly the history of this belt doesn't help the fact that the design is utterly ugly and unappealing. The red strap is intriguing, but the snakeskin and straight cut make it look a little too similar to a slice of bacon. On top of this is the noble but failed attempt to have the central piece shaped like the United States of America. It's a good idea but doesn't fill the strap and as such looks very out of place and unsymmetrical.
It's a noble effort, but not an appealing one.
