Hugh Jackman appeared on RAW in 2011 to promote his film Real Steel, which was centered on fighting robots. Jackman was cheered by the WWE Universe, which was a good sign; most of the other guest hosts were either booed or the fans simply didnt care. Jackman was an exception because he was popular with the fans already, due in part to his career as Wolverine in the X-Men movie series. Jackman played an important role on the RAW show he was hosting, insulting Vickie Guerrero (but then again, who didnt make fun of her back then?), and then got involved in an argument with then-US Champion Dolph Ziggler. That exchange showed the fans how good of a talker Ziggler was back then (I beat 3 opponents, not robots ), and he still managed to hold his own against Jackman. As the promo came to an end, Jackman vowed to find the biggest underdog in the company to embarrass Ziggler in a match later that night. Who did he choose to be Zigglers opponent? Zack Ryder, who was quickly gaining a lot of momentum from his online show, Z! True Long Island Story. In that match, after Vickie made caused a brief distraction, Jackman managed to climb onto the apron and punch Ziggler in the jaw, which allowed Ryder to capitalize and win the match, giving a massive boost in momentum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlPpaE2aSWQ Overall, Jackman managed to contribute to the show in a positive way. He wasnt the center of attention for much of his screen time, and instead opted to use his presence to help a rising star get higher in the company; which is exactly what happened in Ryders case. Though Ryders ascent to the higher echelons of the WWE roster was short-lived, it still helped him achieve that goal of being a big star in the WWE, however short that star shone bright.
