5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE Hell In A Cell 2016

3. Winner: Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens wasn’t exactly enthused about the idea of facing Seth Rollins last night. He’d grown increasingly wary of competing inside Hell In A Cell throughout the build-up, and often cited Mick Foley’s “ruined” career as an example he’d rather not follow. Though a tough, uncompromising fighter himself, KO wanted nothing to do with the demonic structure, and he made that perfectly clear.

But he conquered it all last night. Sure, he needed Chris Jericho’s help to seal the deal again, but Owens retained his Universal Championship with a decisive pinfall. He and Seth produced an excellent match that only became convoluted through Jericho’s involvement. They deserve great credit for producing a strong HIAC match in wrestling’s most sanitised time period, and KO’s good fortune continues.

The finish doesn’t exactly leave him looking strong, through. Owens needed Jericho as a human shield to win last night, and it goes down as another blighted victory in a title reign characterised by them. Regardless, Owens remains Raw’s top dog, and if Chris Jericho’s post-match antics are anything to go by, it looks like his biggest rival’s attentions will now be focused elsewhere.
