4. Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin and Jack Swagger’s match on last week’s SmackDown was a mess. The non-tapout finish was bad enough, but the two had worked a cripplingly dull resthold-fest up to that point, and when their No Mercy rematch was made the next day, few were looking forward to it.

They didn’t have the most exciting match at No Mercy, but given the expectation levels, Swagger and Corbin over-delivered. They put on a competent back and forth affair that eventually saw Corbin overturn the SmackDown loss to go 1-1 with Swagger, and ensure their rivalry extends beyond last night’s show.

The Lone Wolf was left enraged by the refereeing incompetence that led to last week’s loss, but he took it all back at No Mercy. Corbin smartly attacked Swagger’s hands to prevent him from applying his trademark Patriot Lock with its usual torque, and ultimately won by distracting the official, poking Swagger’s eye, and finishing him with the End of Days.

SmackDown’s attempted Jack Swagger revival judders to a halt, but it’s a solid win for Corbin. The next - and most challenging - step is trying to find a way to make the fans care for him, as he’s done little to distinguish himself on SD thus far.
