5. Luke Harper

WWE made a curious choice in having Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton close No Mercy. Their match had more name value than any other outside the Triple Threat, sure, but the build has been spotty, particularly compared to The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler. Orton and Wyatt just didn’t command the same level of investment as the IC Title match, and most importantly, they couldn’t live up to its standards in the ring.

Orton vs. Wyatt was a limp, slow-paced affair that felt at least twice as long as its 15-minute runtime. Not a terrible match by any stretch of the imagination, but something you’d expect to see on weekly television, not a PPV.

The match produced two big surprises:-

1. Bray Wyatt actually won a PPV match.

2. Luke Harper returned.

With Braun Strowman on Raw and Erick Rowan injured, Wyatt was in dire need of allies, and in Harper, he has recovered his strongest henchman. Luke’s sudden appearance distracted Orton to gift Bray the victory, and it was he, not his master, who emerged as the match’s real star. Harper won’t often get the chance to close a WWE PPV, but that’s exactly what he did last night, and his re-emergence brought triumph to Wyatt in his ongoing war with The Viper.
