2. Loser: Sami Zayn

Hey, remember when Sami Zayn closed-off a 6+ year rivalry by beating Kevin Owens in a Match of the Year candidate at Battleground? No? Neither does WWE, apparently.

Sami continues to be little more than a spot-filler when he should be flying up the card. The Owens victory should’ve minted him, but he’s largely been featured on losing efforts against wrestlers like Seth Rollins since Battleground. Zayn hasn’t been given a significant story since overcoming his greatest rival, and is now firmly stuck in a holding pattern deep within the Raw midcard.

He wrestled a three-minute match against Jinder Mahal this week, and while he got the win, few people cared. Jinder doesn’t have any heat with the crowd, so Zayn’s victory means next to nothing, and his appearance reeked of getting him on the show for the sake of just having him appear.

WWE are doing right by playing-up Sami’s courage by working through his ankle injury, but something’s got to give. He’s a main event babyface in the making, and he’s more than ready to explode: all WWE have to do is hand him the ball and let him run with it. They’re not going to accomplish this by letting him languish so low in the card, so here’s hoping WWE find something substantial for him to do at Clash of Champions.
