5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE Raw (Sept 26)

3. Losers: Sheamus & Cesaro

There’s no argument that WWE have completely botched the conclusion to Cesaro and Sheamus’ epic Best of 7 series, right? As eyeroll-inducing as Sheamus winning would’ve been, leaving things without a winner isn’t just completely illogical, but insulting to the fans’ intelligence. The Clash of Champions draw ruined an excellent match, and last night only rubbed salt in the wound.

Instead of setting up the rematch, Cesaro and Sheamus were handed a Tag Team Title opportunity. They went on to wrestle a set of local talents using typical “reluctant partner” tropes and tactics, and will now attempt to end The New Day’s 400+ day title reign at an upcoming event. Raw’s management delivered on their promises of a “title opportunity”, but nobody wanted this conclusion, not even the wrestlers themselves.

Perhaps they’ll become an effective tag team, but the decision doesn’t make any sense within its current context. The series was based on a strong competitive rivalry and the duo’s disdain for one another, the matches were always exciting, and yes, they’ll be sorely missed. WWE have unfortunately stripped all of that away with their decision, and instead of catapulting Cesaro or Sheamus to prominence, they’ve left both languishing.
